Extended School Year
Benway’s Extended School Year (ESY) is a six-week program that runs from the first week of July through the second week of August. The program is designed for those students who face various challenges during the regular school year or the upcoming school year.
A common challenge that the students may be facing upon return to school in September is “regression and recoupment” of knowledge. Students with severe learning disabilities may have retention issues. A summer vacation may be hazardous to the continuity of their educational process. Therefore, our program addresses the “school basics”: Reading, Writing, & Math. We also incorporate Art and Physical Education so there is an outlet for those students who find it difficult to concentrate for extended periods of time.
Additional information regarding the program will be discussed at the student’s IEP meeting.
